Fort Saint-Louis (Martinique)

The modern-day Fort Saint-Louis, which stands on a rocky peninsula at the edge of Fort-de-France Bay in the French overseas territory of Martinique, evolved from earlier strongholds and has been known previously as Fort Royal (under French control, dating back to 1638), Fort Edward (during various periods of British occupation), and the short-lived Fort de la Republique (during the French Revolution). The present fort still serves as an active naval base and is listed as a French historic site.

Daily tours of the fort are available, although the naval base portion is off-limits.
