The 111-acre Quarry Lake Park in the East Shakopee Industrial Area contains nature trails and a quarry lake, which is used by the Shakopee-Prior Lake Water Ski Association. During the summer months, from June through August, the Shockwaves water ski show team (above) puts on free 90-minute shows on Thursdays evenings. These performances include various forms of “trick” skiing, including jumps, pyramids, acrobatics, and barefoot skiing. Afterwards, the boat drivers even show off (below).
The park also allows fishing from the dock in the lake’s northwest corner, as long as one has the required angling license and trout/salmon stamp. The Minnesota DNR annually stocks the lake with rainbow trout. Non-motorized boat use is also allowed on the lake, as marked by buoys.
The first phase of the park was completed in 2016. More recently, groundbreaking on the 3-mile Xcel Energy Mountain Bike Course took place in July 2020, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for later this August. Further amenities, such as kayak/canoe access, picnic tables & grills, and a playground, are also planned to open in the near future.
