2. Linggufeng (“Hope Valley Peak”)

This religious and cultural mountain retreat was quite popular with many of the best-known historical politicians and scholars of Fuzhou, especially Wang Anshi and Tang Xianzu. Located in the south-eastern outskirts of Linchuan, it is especially beautiful in springtime due to its sea of red azaleas, although it is rather windy in the fall and snowy in the winter. The mountain takes about an hour to climb, and upon reaching the top, you’ll find Linggufeng Temple, which is notable for welcoming followers of China’s three great religions — Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. There are also several interesting statues over-looking the valley below, including a larger-than-life-sized sculpture of Wang Anshi, a multi-faced Buddha (below, left), and a large ox (below, right).
