Antiguan Flag

The flag of Antigua and Barbuda was adopted in 1967 when these two Caribbean islands became independent from Britain. The design, created by an Antiguan teacher, looks to the past as well as to a bright future:

  • The black represents the country’s African-American origins
  • The red triangles on either side of the flag represent the energy of the locals
  • The blue represents hope
  • The yellow rising sun represents a new era

And together, the tricolor of yellow, blue, and white evokes an image of sun, sea, and sand.
