Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve

Ocean Cay is an artificial island located in the Bimini district of the Bahamas. It was originally built in the late 1960s and early 1970s as an industrial sand extraction site by using an existing rock outcrop. However, in recent years, the cay was redeveloped as a marine reserve and private island for MSC Cruises, the world’s largest privately held cruise company.

Today, the island includes various attractions, such as:

  • an arrival plaza and welcome pavilion
  • a Bahamian-style shopping village
  • a mixed-use marina
  • a central green space
  • a lighthouse
  • an amphitheatre
  • a food court
  • a restaurant and coffee bar
  • two walk-up bars
  • a shallow water lagoon
  • eight public and private beaches
  • a spa
  • private cabanas, and
  • several diving areas
