Initially established in 1968 as Normandale State Junior College, Normandale Community College is a current member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, primarily serving the southwestern Twin Cities metropolitan area. It is located on a 90-acre site in Bloomington, Minnesota, featuring eight contemporary brick buildings centered around a main courtyard, including several academic buildings, a library, and the newly-renovated Kopp Student Center.
The campus also features a live theatre, which puts on several productions each year; a student art gallery; and a sizable Japanese Garden (below), featuring walking trails, a large koi pond, an artificial waterfall, a couple of Japanese-style pavilions and bridges, and a small tea house. Additionally, Bloomington’s Nine Mile Creek transects the college campus, near East Marsh Lake Park’s wetlands.
- Visited: many times since 2000
This was a good reminder about the Japanese garden. I think I saw this one time perhaps over a decade ago . Must make a trip back to enjoy this spring.
