Nevada State Flag

Nevada has had several flags during its history. The first, created in 1905, featured 36 stars on a blue background, with the state’s name in the center and the words “Silver” on top and “Gold” below, reflective of Nevada’s mineral resources.

In 1915, the reference to resources was changed to feature the state’s Coat of Arms instead, with the state name on top and the words “All For Our Country” below. However, since this flag became too expensive to produce, a contest was held to come up with a more economical alternative.

In 1929, the winning design, also on a blue background, was made up of a wreath of sage-brush, the state flower, cradling a silver star with “Nevada” circling it. A ribbon at the top also displayed the words “Battle Born”, in recognition of Nevada becoming a state during the Civil War.
