With a history dating back over 5,000 years, Chur is the oldest town in Switzerland. The city’s historic Old Town, one of the best preserved in Switzerland, offers a large area of cultural activities, including three regional museums, as well as over 500 shops and boutiques, numerous cafes, restaurants & bars. It is also completely car-free.
Especially noteworthy are the Bishop’s Palace and the triple-naved cathedral of Sankt Maria Himmelfahrt. Themed tours are also available, with an audio guide available in over a dozen languages. The Old Town also forms the backdrop for colorful farmer’s markets, offered each Saturday morning from May to October, and an annual Christmas market is held at the end of the year.
